Visitors needed a place to come and see the rich history that surrounds the Cathedral and the prior approach was to simply use part of the cathedral itself to display this information while two beautiful buildings adjacent to the Cathedral were under utilised. The space taken in the Cathedral itself was less than ideal and the need to expand was obvious.
Two grade II listed buildings have been converted into a visitors centre, education centre and additional meeting and rehearsal spaces. The visitors centre occupies the ground floor while the Palace view room and Knights Chamber, two wonderful meeting / conference spaces occupy the first floor. The Education centre is on the top floor providing a truly wonderful space to enjoy the intellectual history of the Cathedral.
